Reuters: Tata scraps plans to produce JLR EVs in Tamil Nadu

Sources close to Tata Motors attributed the shelved plans to waning EV demand and price/quality problems with parts procurement. By Stewart Burnett

Tata Motors has abandoned its tentative plans to produce JLR electric vehicles (EVs) at its currently-under-construction US$1bn car plant in Tamil Nadu, India, according to a 12 March 2025 report by Reuters. Citing four sources familiar with the matter, the outlet attributed the shelving of plans to problems with price-quality mix in procuring parts.
