Despite setbacks, OEMs can still achieve EU CO2 compliance


Increasing BEV market share is not the only way for automakers to avoid hefty fines. By Stewart Burnett

Increasingly strict regulations are compelling the European automotive industry to decarbonise. To date, this pressure has proven effective: the average CO2 emissions from new passenger cars registered in the EU fell by 27% between 2019 and 2022. This was primarily driven by surging adoption of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), which represented 13.4% of the total new car fleet, according to European Commission data.
