The strongest men’s Olympic golf field is ready for the challenge Le Golf National will pose this week as golf gets underway at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With a gold medal and international greatness on the line, there are some tremendous pairings in store right as play begins at the Summer Games.

Headlining the event — being held at the host of the 2018 Ryder Cup and the French Open — is the trio of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Åberg, which will tee off at 4:11 a.m. ET on Thursday. That pairing includes three of the top five players in the world, and it will easily be the biggest attraction across the first two rounds.

Other notable groups include Wyndham Clark, Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood (3:44 a.m.) as well as Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm (5:55 a.m.). Frenchman Victor Perez will hit the first tee shot at 3 a.m. on Thursday as he represents the home country of these Olympics.

“I wouldn’t say added pressure,” said Perez of playing this event in his home country. “I can speak on this one because I think we are very similar. I don’t think anybody in this room is going to be able to put more pressure on ourselves than we are already putting on ourselves.

“Obviously, there’s high expectations being in Paris and the course we’ve played so many times in the French Open. But at the same time, I try to see it as, ‘Would you rather play at home or away?’ You’d rather play at home. And, ‘Would you rather have the crowd with you or against you?’ You’d rather have it with you, obviously.”

The crowd will definitely be with Perez and countryman Matthieu Pavon, who will tee it up with Collin Morikawa and Matt Fitzpatrick later in the day.

But there will be with plenty of the other interesting groups taking on Le Golf National as golf at the Olympics gets started for just the third time since 1904.
